A friend recently told me that she doesn’t know ways to practice spelling words at home with her kids. I didn’t have any tips for her right off hand except to make it fun. So it got me thinking about different ways we’ve practiced spelling words, or done any kind of homework for that matter. For the most part, my kids don’t have homework.

Homework is anything that children do outside the normal school day that contributes to their learning following guidance from the school. We believe that homework should promote a positive link between home and school. Through homework, children can see first hand home and school working towards common and shared aims in their education. Homework encompasses a whole variety of activities.
Year 2 Homework - Spellings Spelling is taught throughout Year 2 primarily through the use and application of phonics. Children are given a weekly list of words to take home and learn. These words are then tested in class the following week to assess how well children have learned them. They are taught in ability sets across their year group. The number of words a child is given varies.
